If you are referred to another dentist within the practice whilst you are undergoing a course of treatment you will only pay one charge. However – if you are referred to an external dentist or specialist, further charges will apply as it will be regarded as a separate course of treatment. The amount you need to pay will always be discussed with you by your dentist beforehand.
All charges for NHS treatment will be collected at the start of the course of treatment before any treatment is carried out.
How to claim a refund of NHS charges
If you have paid for NHS treatment but later found out that you were actually entitled to have it free or at a reduced rate, you can claim a refund of the NHS charge. This will need to be requested within three months of the date that you paid for your treatment and cannot be claimed directly from the practice.
