How To Brush The Back of Your Teeth
Brushing the backs of your teeth should be a focal point of every tooth cleaning exercise, morning, afternoon and evening. Many of us are guilty of heading into the bathroom, and spending a quick 20 seconds cleaning our teeth, only to catch the front of them, often forgetting about the back.
Why is cleaning the backs so important I hear you ask?
Neglecting the back of your teeth means that you are going to get a gradual build-up of plaque on them, the more plaque increases the chances of tooth decay, gum disease and other cause for concerns.
Removing the plaque is important if you want healthy teeth, and to avoid any issues that could easily develop in the short and long term. It is also advisable to replace your toothbrush once you notice fraying around the edges and the bristles beginning to get worn down; usually this can occur within the 3 – 5 month period.
A simple 5 step way to brush your teeth:
1. Apply a pea-sized amount of toothpaste on your toothbrush.
2. Use a gentle circular motion to clean each tooth.
3. Repeat on the inside and backs of your teeth, reaching far back and around the inner perimeter.
4. Use a light back and forth motion on the chewing surfaces.
5. Spit out the toothpaste after brushing, and either rinse with water or a mouthwash if needed.
For children, getting this 5 step process as a standard part of their everyday life can benefit them in the future, and help them learn about keeping their teeth healthy.
