What are the signs of mouth cancer?
Tumours, growths and abnormalities can develop in and around the mouth. We look for signs on the tongue, lips and gums as well as on the face, neck and throat. Symptoms that you should not ignore include:
- Growths or lumps
- Bleeding ulcers that do not heal
- Red or white patches on the lining of the mouth
- Persistent pain when swallowing
While these symptoms are not necessarily signs of mouth cancer, you should seek a medical opinion as soon as possible. During the mouth cancer screening, your dentist will inform you if they detect any abnormalities. If you have any concerns about your oral health, ask your dentist for advice.
Reducing the risks of oral cancer
