Invisalign. Top Invisalign Questions & Answers

Millions of people around the world choose Invisalign over other braces. No wonder as it is an excellent teeth straightening option. In this article, we will explore what makes Invisalign such a great choice and how to look after these invisible braces.

What Is Invisalign?

Invisalign is the leading brand in ‘invisible’ braces. It’s a perfect way to align your front teeth aesthetically.

Invisalign consists of a series of removable clear (nearly invisible) aligners that are custom-made through 3D computer technology, which allows them to straighten and align our teeth to give you the perfect smile.

What Does the Invisalign Procedure Involve?

You should make an appointment with your dentist to discuss Invisalign and for

them to assess your teeth. Your dentist will decide whether Invisalign is suitable for you. If it is, they will take a high-tech, digital 3D image of your mouth and teeth. From this, you will see a simulated evolution and timeline of the straightening plan with a projected result.

How Often Should I Change My Invisalign Braces?

Every two weeks, you will receive new Invisalign aligners to wear over your teeth all day except for eating and cleaning. The aligners gradually and progressively move your teeth to the desired position.

How Long Does Invisalign Treatment Take?

We will schedule appointments at the practice every 4 – 6 weeks to review progress. Depending on your individual requirements, Invisalign treatments typically last from 2 to 18 months.

Is Invisalign Painful?

Invisalign is not painful. It can be slightly unpleasant due to gentle pressure inside your mouth as your teeth are moving to the correct position.

Will My Teeth Return to The Original Position After Invisalign?

If there is any risk that teeth can move to the original position, your dentist will prescribe a retention appliance you can use. However, this is not common.

How Should I Look After My Invisalign Braces?

There are a few instructions you should follow to ensure your invisible braces are clean and safe.

Dos:

  • Rinse your aligners when you remove them as dry saliva and plaque can leave bacteria on them
  • Soak them in Invisalign cleaning crystals or a denture/retainer cleaning product
  • You can also clean them with a clear anti-bacterial soap
  • Brush and floss your teeth before wearing your Invisalign braces

Don’ts:

  • Do not brush your braces too hard as you can leave scratches on them
  • Do not eat or drink anything but water while you are wearing them. Food and drinks can stain your Invisalign braces
  • Do not use toothpaste for cleaning purposes as it is too abrasive and can leave small pockets for bacteria to breed.
